Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s production house, Archewell Productions, announced on July 14 that it will executive produce an animated series for Netflix.
According to People, the original series that is currently in production is tentatively being called Pearl and will document a young girl’s adventures.
The show is being developed as a family series that will show the excursions of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by many influential women throughout history.
The Archewell Productions co-founder stated,” Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges. I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.”
Furnish said in a statement, “Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, and I are deeply passionate about bringing the inspirational and positive stories of extraordinary women from around the world to a global audience of all ages. The team collaborating on the series are first class, and Netflix are the perfect partner.”
Pearl will be the first animated series for Archewell Productions. Meghan and Harry signed a deal with Netflix in September 2020.
The royal couple said, “Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us. [Netflix’s] unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”
