90 Day Fiancé couple Armando Rubio and Kenneth Niedermeier are newlyweds! The two got married in Mexico over the weekend.
They confirmed the news via Instagram on Sunday with a photo of the two sharing a kiss at the altar. Rubi captioned the photo, “Mr. & Mr. Niedermeier-Rubio ❤️.”
The two held an intimate ceremony in Baja California, Mexico where they exchanged vows.
In their season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Rubio and Niedermeier were the first gay couple ever featured on the show. On the season finale, the couple visited the human rights office in Mexico to get approved for marriage.
The season also featured an emotional conversation between Rubio and his family about how he hid his sexuality from them.
In an interview with US Weekly, he said, “I haven’t talked to my family in three years about me being gay, because I’ve heard comments about them still not accepting it, still not wanting to see it. I’m very scared. I don’t know what to expect. I just do not want them to keep denying it.”
Rubio had previously been married to a woman before coming out to his family, and the two have a daughter, Hannah, who is 8.
“Even though at a very young age, I knew I was gay, given the macho culture I was brought up in, I wanted to have a relationship with a woman,” he said during an episode of the show. “And I thought that this was the only possible way that these feelings could go away and I could be a man.”
After about eight years of marriage, Rubio told Hannah’s mother that he was gay. She tragically perished in a car accident a few months later.
Rubio and Niedermeier first met in a support group for gay fathers where they immediately connected. Niedermeier decided to move from Florida to Mexico to be with Rubio and his daughter and then proposed just one week after the move.
