According to new court documents from the case, Britney Spears has requested that Jodi Montgomery of Pais Montgomery Fiduciary permanently replace her father, Jamie Spears, as her personal conservator.
Sources close to the singer say that Spears isn’t interested in ending her conservatorship completely; rather, she just wants her father removed from it. “She’s taken care of, and she knows it,” said one source, as reported by TMZ.
Montgomery’s California-based company, Pais Montgomery Fiduciary, deals in estate management, personal advising, and other such acts on behalf of its beneficiaries. Meanwhile, Montgomery herself has served as Spears’ personal care manager for the past two years.
Documents obtained by TMZ indicate that Jamie Spears temporarily resigned his power in the conservatorship in 2019, at which point Jodi was appointed as an interim conservator.
However, while Jamie has been content with these arrangements and is willing to step down as the conservator of Britney’s person, he currently remains as a co-conservator of her estate, along with Bessemer Trust.
Essentially, as conservator of her person, Montgomery is in charge of Spears’ personal decisions, particularly in regard to her well-being. This includes the ability to communicate with medical professionals, retain Spears’ caretakers and security guards, and prosecute civil harassment restraining orders, among other things.
Meanwhile, as long as Jamie continues to serve as co-conservator of Spears’ estate, he will hold the ability to make financial and business decisions pertaining to her estate.
As stated on her personal profile on the Pais Montgomery Fiduciary website, Montgomery is “formally trained in social work and strongly committed to meeting the particular needs of conservatees, and special needs trust beneficiaries—and protecting them from all forms of physical and financial abuse.”
