1990’s grunge icon Courtney Love has accused pop newcomer Olivia Rodrigo of stealing the cover art for her band Hole’s 1994 album, Live Through This.
Love wrote on Twitter, “Spot the difference! #twinning!” quote tweeting Rodrigo’s album art.
She also made the same post on Facebook and Instagram.
The iconic image from Hole’s Live Through This cover sports model Leilani Bishop with a bouquet and a prom queen’s tiara as mascara tears run down her face. It seems as though Rodrigo is paying homage to the iconic album cover in a very similar photo of herself in the art for her Sour Prom Concert Film.
On Love’s Facebook page, she engaged with fans in the comments saying that it was rude to recreate the image without her permission. She explained that she’s not bothered since it happens frequently and added, “But manners is manners.”
Rodrigo responded to Love on Instagram, expressing her admiration for the Celebrity Skin artist. “Love u and live through this sooooo much,” she wrote.
“Olivia – you’re welcome,” Love replied to Rodrigo, with an expectation of flowers and an apology. “My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! Dm me for deets! I look forward to reading your note!”
After the debut of her first album Sour, Rodrigo told PEOPLE that, “I’m just constantly learning and growing at such a rapid rate. I’m writing songs and I’m really happy. I’m a lot happier than I was when I wrote that record, which is great. I’m a lot more confident, which I think is a good aspect of growing up. We’ll see what the next era brings, but I’m excited to start working on it.”
