During a Wednesday appearance on “Good Morning America” to promote her new book “Things I Should Have Said,” Jamie Lynn Spears shared some candid thoughts about her relationship with her older sister, Britney.
In the interview, Jamie explained that she didn’t understand the conservatorship from its inception.
“When it was put into place, I was [a] 17-year-old about to have a baby, so I didn’t understand what was happening, nor was I focused on that,” she began. “I was focused on being a 17-year-old about to have a baby. “
Jamie continued, “I understand [sic] as little about it then as I do now.”
Despite this, Jamie did acknowledge that Britney had asked her to be a potential caregiver for her sons should the conditions of the conservatorship make her unable to do so. “That was a very normal thing, I thought,” she said of her sister’s request.
As for her role in the conservatorship, Jamie stated that she “made no steps to be a part of it.”
“Once I realized that […] she was in a conservatorship, I felt like I just didn’t want to be a part of [it] until she was out of the conservatorship.”
Jamie went on to explain that she has always seen herself as her sister’s “biggest supporter.” When asked by the interviewer what happened to the love between the sisters, Jamie became tearful and explained that her love for her sister is “still there, 100%.”
Jamie, still emotional, said, “I love my sister. I’ve only ever loved and supported her and done what’s right by her. And she knows that.”
She concluded, “I don’t know why we’re in this position right now.”
