It’s been eight months since SNL alum Jason Sudeikis and actress and filmmaker Olivia Wilde called it quits, and Sudeikis has finally spoken out about how he’s handling the breakup.
Sudeikis, 45, shared his thoughts in a cover story for the August issue of GQ, saying that he still doesn’t fully grasp what went wrong.
The former couple shares two kids, Otis and Daisy, and were engaged for seven years prior to their early 2020 breakup.
“I’ll have a better understanding of why in a year, and an even better one in two, and an even greater one in five, and it’ll go from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle,” said Sudeikis in the article. He went on to describe how he’s trying to grow from the experience.
“That’s an experience that you either learn from or make excuses about,” he said. “You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it.”
Wilde, too, appears to be moving on, as she was seen holding hands with Harry Styles in January 2021. The two haven’t publicly announced an official relationship but were later seen getting cozy on a vacation in Italy, too.
Although Sudeikis doesn’t yet have full clarity on his breakup, he’s had plenty of personal successes, recently. His Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso, which premiered in August 2020, went on to win a Golden Globe and was just nominated for several EMMY Awards.
Despite the similarities between him and his character Ted, Sudeikis shared in his GQ story that the similarities are completely coincidental.
“That’s the crazy thing. Everything that happened in season one was based on everything that happened prior to season one. Like, a lot of it three years prior. You know what I mean? The story’s bigger than that, I hope. And anything I’ve gone through, other people have gone through. That’s one of the nice things, right? So it’s humbling in that way.”
