17 years after the last episode of Friends aired in 2004, the cast reunited during a 2021 reunion. Stars Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry got together during a 2-hour special that aired on HBO back in May.
Jennifer Aniston has recently shared that the reunion brought back a hard time in her life and she had to walk out during the filming of the special.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aniston says “time travel is hard.” referring back to her time on the original set compared to her reunion set which was almost identical. While she was excited to get back together with the crew and relive the good memories, she also forgot the tough feelings that that time in her life would bring up.
In the same year that the final season of Friends aired for the last time, Aniston was in the paparazzi spotlight. Her husband at the time, Brad Pitt, was filming the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith with his now ex-wife Angelina Jolie. It wasn’t long before the cameras and tabloids began romantic rumors about the two co-stars. Aniston admits that was hard and hurtful to see such nasty tabloids, especially anything relating to having children.
Less than a year after the end of Friends, it was revealed that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were splitting after a long 7 years of marriage. When she was asked why she gets emotional about her life post-filming Friends she notes it is not because of her career after, but rather personal things in her life that fell apart.
