With sunburn season upon us, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is imploring people to wear sunscreen after his most recent doctor’s visit. This Monday the actor posted a photo of a bandage under his ear, informing his fans he had to have some skin cancer removed.
“Reminder to stay up to date on your dermatology checks,” the actor commented on his post. ” I always wind up getting something taken from me every time I go.”
The actor has assured his fans he will be fine as well as raising awareness for proper prevention. Asking his fans to protect themselves and telling them he will “wear sunscreen! SPF 1000 for me!”
Despite our best efforts, skin cancer is extremely common in the U.S. as 3.3 million Americans are diagnosed with some sort of it every year. Skin cancer can occur for a host of reasons including just randomly, but often exposure to the sun’s UV poses the biggest threat.
Skin cancer is the unusual or dangerous growth of skin cells and is often treatable. If caught early enough, as Ferguson did, you can even have it removed from the skin as an outpatient and be on your way.
Regardless, it isn’t something you want to mess around with and some of the Modern Family alum’s fellow stars have shown support under his post.
Ferguson’s husband Justin Mikita wrote, “gotta keep you around forever. Derm appointments once a month!”
“SPF one million!!! And hats- so many hats,” commented Zooey Deschanel.
Even Broadway star Kelli O’Hara shared that she had gone through the same thing in her comment saying, “OMG same for me today!! All good. But yet, wear your sunscreen!”
