Former That’s So Raven star Kyle Massey has found himself in some hot water after missing his court date on Monday. The Disney Channel alum finds himself in the center of a federal lawsuit after allegedly making inappropriate advances on an underage girl.
Massey was initially sued back in 2019 by the same plaintiff. The plaintiff has accused Massey of sending inappropriate text messages, photos, and videos to a 13-year-old girl. Now People reports he is facing a federal charge in Washington state for communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
The girl claims she and Massey first met while she was four and kept up communication as she wanted to pursue a career in show business. The interactions in question came in 2018 after the plaintiff reached out to Massey asking to audition for a reboot of Cory in the House, a show that was centered around Massey’s Disney Channel character Cory Baxter.
Massey was allegedly made aware the girl was only in eighth grade at the time and then proceeded to send the plaintiff explicit messages between December 2018 and January 2019.
After the initial case was filed in 2019, Massey denied the claims.
“No child should ever be exposed to sexually explicit materials and I unequivocally and categorically deny any alleged misconduct,” claimed Massey in a statement via his attorney. “In early 2019, Plaintiff’s attorneys demanded $1.5M threatening to go public to destroy my career if I did not comply. My family and I rejected this extortion attempt because I have faith that the legal process will reveal the truth.”
Massey now has a $100,000 warrant out for his arrest. Future legal proceedings are yet to be set.
