Comedian Leslie Jones will be the host of the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards.
The show will air live on Sunday, May 16th, at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. As host, Jones will be joining the ranks of past hosts Vanessa Hudgens, Zachary Levi, and Tiffany Haddish.
“The MTV Movie & TV Awards are known for being a lot less formal than the Oscars with more theatrics. And Jones brings a larger-than-life personality,” said Entertainment Weekly on the news of Jones hosting.
This year’s show is particularly noteworthy, as the proceedings will be held in their traditional format, as opposed to the modified version held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of the usual award show, last year’s event was a Greatest of All Time special. The event looked back at the best television and movies since the 80s.
The day after the event, May 17th, MTV will premiere the new Movie and TV Awards: Unscripted—a brand new award show celebrating reality television.
In addition to serving as host, Jones is also nominated for Best Comedic Performance for her role as Mary Junson in Coming 2 America.
Jones is currently the host of gameshow Supermarket Sweep and previously hosted the BET Awards in 2017.
