Meghan McCain has announced that she is leaving daily talk show, The View, after four seasons.
McCain shared the news during Thursday’s episode of the talk show, saying that she will be staying until the end of the month.
At the beginning of the episode, she said, “I am just going to rip the Band-Aid off. I am here to tell all of you, my wonderful co-hosts and viewers at home, that this is going to be my last season here at The View.”
“I will be here through the end of July to finish out the season with all of you which I am grateful for,” she continued. “This was not an easy decision. It took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer, and talking to my family and my close friends, and, you know, look — COVID has changed the world for all of us and it changed the way, at least for me, the way I am looking at life, the way I’m living my life, the way I want my life to look like.”
Part of the reason McCain decided to leave is her life in Washington D.C. with her husband Ben Domenech. The couple welcomed their first child last September.
“When I said goodbye to all of you in the studio, over a year and a half ago, I had just found out I was pregnant. I left the city very quickly because my OBGYN wanted me to leave because he wasn’t sure about how COVID could possibly impact pregnant women,” she recalled. “I came to the D.C. area, which is where my husband and I have always split time, and it’s where I grew up splitting time. We have this incredible life here, we’re surrounded by my family, his family, by friends, by this incredible support unit.”
In October 2017, McCain became a permanent host on The View joining co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines.
McCain said during Thursday’s episode that it was her late father Sen. John McCain was the one who encouraged her to join the show in the first place.
As McCain concluded her exit announcement she said, “I wish nothing but continued success and good wishes and good luck to all of you, and to the show, and I’m just eternally grateful to have had this opportunity here, so seriously, thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. And I will still be here another month, so if you guys want to fight a little bit more, we have four more weeks.”
