Patrick Mahomes’ Fiancee Criticized for Celebration of Chiefs’ Win

Patrick Mahomes’ fiancee, Brittany Matthews, has been taking some heat online after she posted a Twitter video of her celebrating the Chiefs’ NFL play-offs win.

In the video, Matthews is standing in a private stadium box and opens a bottle of champagne to spray it over the crowd in the stands below. Reactions to the tweet were mixed, but many users were critical of Matthews’ actions.

One Twitter user wrote, “Are you actually dumping alcohol on complete strangers?” Others speculated that the fans who became wet may be at greater risk of frostbite or hypothermia due to the extreme cold weather that day.

While some criticized, many Twitter users defended Matthews’ actions. In a since-deleted tweet, one supporter said, “People complaining about Brittany spraying champagne into the stands have clearly never won anything before. Just saying.” Matthews responded, “Accurate.”

Matthews retweeted another statement of support which read, “Imagine your team winning in one of the best games in NFL history…Then complaining about how devoted, excited, and proud Brittany is of her man and this team. Y’all are weird.”

Mahomes’ partner has continued to face criticism in the days since her original tweet. On January 25th, she responded to the social media backlash, “I just wish I could do what I want without getting attacked every week.”

Mahomes and Matthews were engaged in September of 2020 and are parents to their 11-month-old daughter, Sterling Skye Mahomes.

On February 13th, the Chiefs will face off against the Cincinnati Bengals to determine which team will be continuing to play in this year’s Super Bowl.
