Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, welcomed their first daughter into the world on Friday. In a statement published on Sunday, the couple announced the birth of Lilibet Diana.
“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” the statement said.
The names Meghan and Prince Harry choose for their daughter pay tribute to Prince Harry’s mom, the late Princess Diana, and Queen Elizabeth, whose nickname given by Prince Phillip was Lilibet.
According to the statement, Lili was born Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces. The statement also stated that both mom and baby are “healthy and well, and settling in at home.”
The Duke and Duchess accompanied the statement with a message saying Lili is “more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.” Their statement went on to thank everyone for their “continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
The couple’s family sent well wishes to the parents on Twitter.
“We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie,” Prince Harry’s brother, William, and his wife, Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said.
