After their split following a post-season controversy surrounding resurfaced photos from Rachel’s past, Bachelor couple Matt James and Rachel Kirkconnell are giving it another shot—with one caveat.
Rachel Kirkconnell, who received backlash over pictures from an antebellum-themed college party, has given Matt an ultimatum:
“She was like, ‘If you’re going to make this work, let’s do it. But, if you’re not going to make it work, I’m going to let you do your own thing,'” said Matt in an interview with the Pomp podcast. James also went on to say “That’s really all I needed. It was an ultimatum that I needed. It’s been great. It was honestly a commitment that we made to each other that we were going to work on the relationship.”
Allegations of racist behavior from Kirkconnell surfaced shortly after Matt’s season of The Bachelor concluded, but the 24-year-old has since made statements on her commitment to doing “the work to be truly anti-racist.”
In the wake of this development, James and Kirkconnell seem to be thriving in their rekindled relationship.
“There were rough patches in our relationship [and] we actually broke up for a moment. We’re back together [now],” continued James in his Pomp interview. “Everything we’ve been through, everything she’s been through, she’s stuck right by my side. She’s continued to have a positive attitude. It’s one of the many things I love about her.”
The couple was recently photographed on a beach date in Miami, shortly before they publicly confirmed their reunion.
